2. where do I get coal and supplies that you can't gather, or do you?

3. I have artisan mechanists armor volume 7 and it tells me I havn't the
skill to use it, how do I get the skill and what is it for?

You buy coal and other fuels form tradehalls.

Your levels in different tradeskills increase as you use them, like
your combat skills. When individual skills get high enough, you can
scribe the books you find.
