Trading FR/LG pokemon to R/S

Just curious, let's say you have three carts: LG (completed), Sapphire
(completed), and Ruby (start a new game). If you trade a Bulbasaur from
LG to Sapphire, and then from Sapphire to Ruby, how is it handled in
the Ruby pokedex, since the Ruby pokedex hasn't yet been updated to the
national dex?

Oh by the way, the reason I ask this (and I don't just trade from LG to
Ruby) is that I'd like to get all three starters on Ruby, and then I'd
like to trade over Jolteon (and then I'll get Jirachi as well, so
that's five pretty good to start with!). I know I can't trade between
LG and Ruby right away, but I'd like to get Jolteon to Ruby in the
beginning, so the only way to do this would be to transfer it first to
Sapphire, then do the R/S trade.

R/S should automatically update to the nat'l dex as soon as you receive your
first non-regional 'mon.

Since you got both thoughts on this, why don't you try it and tell us what
really happens.

I envy you. I want a LG....<sniff> And a lot of other stuff, like Jirachi
and GC and and and.....

You will be able to trade the starters to Ruby, but they won't be added to
the Pokédex - to do that, you'd need to trade with FL itself.

You shouldn't need to, since you may well have tried it already with Coli.
Trade a non-RS Pokémon from Coli to RS, and it doesn't get acknowledged by
the PokéDex. Getting a foreign Pokémon isn't enough to unlock the National
Dex - it has to come straight from Kanto, with no middle man.

That's true. I never thought to look at my Jirachi entry before I traded
with LG. So I guess in Sapphire, there *was* no entry for Jirachi until
the National Dex was unlocked?

Nope. Jirachi (and Deoxys, for that matter) has a full entry and is
listed normally in the R/S Pokedex, without the National 'Dex being
activated. [cheated a while back to see just what he was like - also cheated
in some of my Crystal favorites, like Houndour/Houndoom for that game; they
had no 'Dex entry, but Jirachi did]

Jirachi and Deoxys can both be viewed with a regional PokéDex, although if
you (currently) legally obtain a Deoxys, that should unlock the National Dex
automatically.

This is why my Sapphire Dex - see sig - has been at 201 for so long. The
only way to boost it further without unlocking the National Dex would be to
obtain the currently unavailable Deoxys.
