Seems to be lots of hype about tom's follies lately.

often read people saying that people don't come here anymore.

I can't see how anyone would know this. other then those running the site. Unless your advertising on this site... then you might be privy to this info.

It is a rather curious question tho.

What is Toms average traffic?
what was it and how has it changes over the last few months?

not neccesarily... but if you were smart the contract would require an x amount of veiwers over x amount of time.

perhaps not a full discloser...but you should know

if you were advertising here and you felt that traffic had declined... would you not want a refund or something?

imagin you want to post up a billboard ad on the side of the hyw.

viacom says they'll put one up at X location for $10,000/mth. w/ 100,000 viewers each week. its booked up for 8 months. you make a contract.
your not local to this sign, so you don't know that this hyw is getting a deture. Viacom knows.

new hyw is built you get 40,000 viewers each week.

contract is breached.

Traffic stats on each site is known to those who run it and to the advertisers that request it.

watch the <A HREF="http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=tomshardware.com" target="_new">alexa rating</A> if you are curious to what trend is in effect currently.

It seems that Alexa have some problems with their stats tools... If you compare the following graphs, they all lost a lot of hits in the 4rt Quarter of 2004. It's kind of "weird".

<A HREF="http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=2y&size=large&compare_sites=&y=r&url=tomshardware.com" target="_new">Tom's</A>

<A HREF="http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=2y&size=large&compare_sites=&y=r&url=hardware.fr" target="_new">Hardware.fr</A> <= A personal favorite.
<A HREF="http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=2y&size=large&compare_sites=&y=r&url=behardware.com" target="_new">BeHardware</A> <= Same as above (In English)

Tom's is still the leader in hits. But not in quality.

Banner advertising doesnt work that way typically. Most often, you buy "unique contacts", which basically means as an advertiser you pay eg $1 to have an add shown 5x to a "unique" contact (identified by IP and/or cookie). So you always get what you pay for.

Some sites or ad agencies will also rent banner space per day/week/month but will always guarantee a minimum number of unique visitors. if that minimum for some reason is not met, you simply get a few days extra, or indeed a refund.

And obviously, the agencies know *exactly* what traffic to expect, which pages, when, where to, where from, etc. They may even use tracking cookies from other websites in their portfolio to determine wether you are likely to be male, rich, gay, adult, maried with children, etc and send you customized banners (sold to advertiser for premium prices). Now when you combine that knowledge with things like airmiles or worse, credit card details, possibilities get pretty creepy. Dont ask, ive worked in that business...

oh yeah, i see it... 😀

Where do people go on tomshardware.com?

tomshardware.com - 75%
graphics.tomshardware.com - 13%
de.tomshardware.com - 4%
big5.tomshardware.com - 2%
stores.tomshardware.com - 2%
gb.tomshardware.com - 1%
<b>community.tomshardware.com - 1% </b>
shop.tomshardware.com - 1%
Other websites - 1%

Hahaha.
So that's explain why they didn't even bother with this forum. We are not a big deal for them...

<pre><font color=red>°¤o,¸¸¸,o¤°`°¤o \\// o¤°`°¤o,¸¸¸,o¤°
And the sign says "You got to have a membership card to get inside" Huh
So I got me a pen and paper And I made up my own little sign</pre><p></font color=red>

You should add that hobby to your profile.
You've taken thread digging to an art form.

I don't know if it's "lub" as much as it is "violate"...
