Hi, I have a player that has a half-elf Ranger and he wants to change
to a multi-class Ranger/Wizard. Can any body tell me how long he
would need to train for this new class and how much would it cost him
for this training?.

From what I can remember, you can't become multi-classed later after you had
already started adventuring... Multi-classed characters are multi-classed
from the start of their campaigning at level 1... The only one that can
change their class is humans, by becoming dual classed. But each DM is
different. If you allow such possibilities, look in the 1st-Edition DMG on
page 86 under "Gaining Experience Levels". That should be of some assistance
in your situation.

But unless of course you are playing 2nd-Edition, then consult the DMG
(TSR2160 - the black book edition) on page 71 under "Training (Optional
Rule)" or first-printing 2nd Edition DMG (TSR2100 - with a dragon and wizard
on the cover) on page 49 under "Training (Optional Rule)"... Both editions
say the same thing...

Hope that helps...

actually there are several places in the 3e rules that say you can
change classes
