Any suggestion to safely transfer files and parameters from Vista to 7 on same machine (just like the one usually done from old to new machine) would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to save fies and settings from old computer to new one. Programs will need to be reinstalled. Customise the selection if you don't want every file on every drive transfered, if you have a lot of stuff like music and videos on another drive deselect them otherwise Windows will try to backup xxxGB's.
To transfer to a second internal drive or partition, select the external drive option.
I know it doesn't make sense, but it's what you need to do.

Your transition from Windows Vista to Windows 7 should be without any hassle since microsoft have made this trouble free...

Still, you should get yourself another hard drive to put all your important files. When you need to do a fresh install, you just format your OS and programs drive. This saved me some crazy time.

From XP to 7, yes... but from Vista to 7, it's another story.

The 2 OSs are so alike that mostly everything should work, at least it is what I heard from Microsoft representatives. No need to reinstall programs or to back up files from Vista to 7. Still I would not trust it. Better doing some backup, a nice format and a fresh install than messing with... new cool features that could easily crash or something...
