Transfer files from dead laptop

Hi
My laptop has died (black screen) due to CPU damage. Fixing it is not worth it. Can someone pls tell me how I can transfer the files from it to a new laptop. It's a HP250. I'm not very computer savvy so simple explanation is required. Ty

Remove hard drive from laptop, plug into an external USB enclosure, user files will be in the C:\Users\username folder assuming it's Win 7 or newer.
