I bought a Hewlett Packard G71-340US laptop without a hard drive and want to install a hard drive with Vista operating system from another damaged Hewlett Packard G60-243CLhp computer. Will it boot up and access the hard drive. The G71 has a COA attached for Windows 7.

Solution
Probably will not work due to differences in the 2 systems -- One option would be to download an OEM win7 iso ( Official MS download source links can be found HERE ( http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/ ) and format the hdd and install win7 (using the key on the laptop - since the OEM license is tied to that MOBO and will reactivate ) -- as mentioned if you want to switch back to vista it will require a new license since the old OEM license for VISTA is tied to the MOBO of the other laptop not the HDD.
DePending on the mb chipset and ram size you may have to boot into safe mode and remove all the older drivers and then reboot to get into windows.
As a tech your better off wipping the old drive and picking up a restore cd fron eBay or hp for the newer laptop.
