Hi

System is Windows 10 64bit.

Am upgrading my system to a new Ryzen based kit. I will keep my current case and the drives (2 SDDs and 5 SATAs). Question is:

Once the new system is built and I connect the existing drives to the new Motherboard, will the data still be there or will I loose them? I will Acronis Image the C drive (Boot drive), so a restore of it will not be an issue.

Solution
Changing motherboard may require reinstallation of windows.
Backup data from boot drive,
disconnect other drives (only boot drive remains connected),
clean boot drive, and
perform clean installation of windows.

There are several considerations, why clean install after upgrade is highly recommended.
If you try to skip reinstallation:
upgraded system may not boot at all,
may boot but with severe performance issues (because of incompatible drivers in system),
windows activation will be broken.

Thanks a lot. Was trying to avoid re-install of a large number of applications I have! If it is better, then I will reinstall.

The bit on activation broken, will I need to reactivate / inform Microsoft that I have a new rebuilt system and not a new PC?
