Transfering laptop hdd to desktop hdd

So i pulled the hard drive out of my laptop and connected it in my new desktop build (that dosent have an OS) just to see if it will work, i watched a couple videos on it just to be sure. Now it boots up fine with the 2.5 laptop hdd. My question is how would i go about transfering the OS and all my files from that laptop hdd to my new 1tb hdd.

well you could use a cloning software like macrium reflect,but i think you are wasting your time.it is only by the grace of god,so to speak that your desktop even boots up from your laptop drive.in this case a clean install is recommended.

Well it does boot up from my laptop drive. And works from what ive seen so far. So what cloning software is available for free?

macrium reflect is your best bet.
