Transferring content from old computer to new

Hello,
Bought dell laptop need to transfer content from desktop tp laptop--not windows xp as new computer has windows 7

If by content you mean like videos or pictures or stuff like that, the easiest solution is an external hard drive or flash drive.

Then other choices would be through the network, by sharing a folder or the whole drive with your workgroup.
This of course means that you have to have a router or switch that lets you hook up two computers to the network.

If that doesn't work, you can install a FTP server on your other machine and FTP client on the other one and use FTP to transfer the files.


If you mean applications and stuff, that can't really be done. You have to install them separately for the new computer.

You can connect an ethernet cable directly between them but it requires reconfiguration. If you're up for that, I'll explain it. You still need to open a share folder.

The easiest way is by using an external hard drive. If you don't have one, go buy one and return it after you're done with it.
