Transferring data between external drives

I have 2 seagate drives, a 5tb and an older 2009 2tb drive with 780gb of data and a laptop running windows 10 with 90gb of free harddrive space. I would like to copy the 780gb data from the old seagate drive to the new one. Do I need to have 780gb of space available on the windows hard drive as temp files space in order to copy the data between both drives hooked up to the laptop at the same time. i dont have enough hard drive space to simply copy the files to the laptop then copy them to the drive.

No, you can simply copy between the two drives. Your laptop does not need that free space.
