Transferring files from one computer to another via ethernet cable

Can I transfer files from one computer to another just using an ethernet cable? Both computers have Windows XP.

Yes if it's a cross-over cable, and you know how to configure network folder sharing.

If you don't have, or don't know how to make a crossover cable a router works with a straight thru. Very convenient, especially is you already have a home network.

Yes you can copy data with Ethernet cable but folder and files will have current date & time.

For getting original date and time you need to use utilities to maintain date & time

I am having a problem transfer my files, folder, and program from a pc with win 7 basic to pc with win 7 pro. I have use Ethernet cable and back up WD My Passport. The error am getting is Can't Log On To Your Domain. HELP!!!

The easiest way I've found is with ADMINISTRATIVE SHARES. This only works Basic -> Pro though but not in reversed. Google for administrative share Windows 7. Of course you must be administrator on both machines.

Sounds like RoboCopy does the same thing for free and it's written by a Microsoft employee.
