Currently running an SSD and I was wondering if it would be beneficial (at all) to move some not important files/programs to an extra 500GB HD? My SSD is close to running out of space. If so, what files should I move over and how could I go about that without messing anything up?

Solution
to move the stam games open steam, open your library

on the list of the games you have installed, right click on the one you want to move and click on properties iirc

it takes 10 minutes or less, depending on the game and on how fast are the disks you have there

you can move as much games as you want, all of them if you wish

ubisoft has a similar process, don't remember origin how does things
a ssd will wear out faster and will perform slower when near to ful, 10 to 15% should be always empty

i usually move documents, steam library and downloads to the other hard disk, in fact i moved the destination of those two folders, also desktop folder

right now only office 2013, windows, antivirus, steam app and a couple more programs are on my ssd, later will put origin and ubisoft again, but those are small, so the ssd should be almost empty

you can always go for a big ssd only, a 480gbs ssd and don't have 2 drives, but we are talking there about price

so this approach i think, will offer you the most of both worlds

there is a extra step, move pagefile.sys from the ssd to the hard disk, should help to keep the ssd healthy for more years

Is there an easy way to move those programs without uninstalling and reinstalling them?

what programs

i was talking about the steam library, steam by itself is just 300 mbs and doesn't matter where it is, same for origin and ubisoft

the library, mine is now 150gbs, steam only, ubi should be 30 gbs, origin was like 10 gbs iirc, have to reinstall to remember that

the library can be moved, both steam and ubisoft ones, check for that step on steam forums or videos of that on youtube

Unless theyre steam games no.

How should i go about moving steam games?

There are some programs that speak of their ability to migrate programs from Source to Target -- because I have always uninstalled/reinstalled, I have not vetted nor used such migration programs. One example for Windows XP and earlier: Acronis Migrate Easy.
