Transferring windows to different mobo?

My friend has an old laptop with windows 10 (pre installed) on a hardrive. Can she move that hardrive to a different laptop and still keep windows? What hoops such as driver updates do you have to go through? Also try to keep any explanation relatively simple. I know windows has some pretty confusing rules in this area

The license is tied to the laptop and can't be moved.

Preinstalled Windows on a laptop is indeed tied to that original laptop.

What happened to the OS on the 'different laptop'?
