Tried installing ram, gets to booting screen and freezes a quarter of the way.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 570 and was looking to upgrade my RAM. I used the crucial scanner to figure out what I should buy and it led me to buy a Vulcan 8gig DDR3 1600. The max amount of RAM my computer can support is 8 gigs so I took all of them out and put this one in. When I started my computer and loaded it up it would get to the Dell loading screen and freeze about a quarter of the way and not let me do anything else, I have no idea whats wrong.

How many sticks did it have in it??

If it supports 8 GB max, and it's got 2 or 4 slots. You cant put 1 8 GB stick in it

If it's got 2 slots, it'll only support 4 GB in each slot. If it's got 4 slots you can only install 2 GB in each slot

It has 4 slots that already had 1 gb sticks in it, so I have to get 4x 2 gig sticks ?

Thats right 2x4 not 1 8 GB stick. If it supports 8 GB max

Thats if 64 bit is on it. 32 bit only supports up to 4 GB max

8 GB max means the total amount of ram it supports, not what 1 slot supports

If it supported 32 GB then yes you could install 1 8GB stick
