[SOLVED] tried to download the windows 7 pro X17-59186.iso from HUP, but the link took me to a windows office 2019 link..is it no long

Solution

So at some point it was upgraded to Win 8 or 8.1?

Maybe its time to cut your losses and don't worry about the Win 7 or 8/8.1.
Install Win 10, and leave it Unactivated. $0.
Or, purchase a valid license for it, about $95.

Or, Linux for $0.
It is a 10 year old laptop.

Did you buy this recently?
If so, I hope you didn't pay more than about $75 for it.

it was from a previous thread here on Toms...the link is https://www.mydigitallife.net/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
and I then clicked on X17-59186.iso from list of available downloads, which sent me to the HUP site

That indicates the MyDigitalLife site is no longer a good repository.

Assuming you have a valid, non-OEM, license key, you can download that direct from Microsoft
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

If it is an OEM license for that, MS expects you to get that from the manufacturer, HP.

Hi

Microsoft still has Windows 7 iso for download but only retail versions and only if you have a retail key available to allow the download to proceed

you can choose language/country home or pro and 32 or 64 bit
you must chose Home or Pro matching your windows key but 32 or 64 choice is yours
(depending on amount of RAM minimum 4GB for 64 bit version)

Ideally you want the updated version after 7 SP1 which allows a key from 7 or 7 with SP1 included to activate the install
otherwise W7 SP1 key does not work on original W7 and key for W 7 does not work on W 7 inc SP1

I Googled

windows 7 sp1 iso site:microsoft.com

and got the UK english page
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7

dont download from any one else other than Microsoft to ensure there is no added malware

It is possible that HP can provide an OEM version of Windows 7 specifically for HP systems
