Tried to update graphics drivers using geforce experience express installation, lose video input halfway through.

Hi,
As the title says, I tried to update my graphics card drivers using geforce experience's express installation. The monitor flickered off and on a couple of times like it said it might, but about halfway through my monitor lost video input and never got it back, leaving me with a black screen and no way of knowing what is happening on my computer. Has anybody had this problem before or know of any fixes? Is the update just hanging and will my monitor come back on once it starts working again, or is this a much bigger problem? Thanks in advance.

Can you run your PC in safe mode and delete the driver completely? Then do a clean install? Or you get nothing at all (meaning even no starting screen to enter bios, safemode etc).

My computer is still on at the moment as I was hoping that the new driver would install and the monitor would come back on. Do you recommend turning off even though it could still working on the driver?

Well an nvidia driver won't install for longer than 5 mins. At least I have never seen it install for longer than 5 mins for like 16 years on maybe 15-20 different nvidia GPUs, so if it still hasn't completed for something like 15 mins I'd say its safe to restart the pc, log into safemode and delete the driver completely.

It's been about 30 mins by this point. How would I go about deleting the driver completely? Also, should I get the latest driver from nvidia's website? Should I also expect to boot up with a very low resolution?

Yeah you will boot in very low res since you won't have the driver, but first go into safemode and completely delete the driver from the control panel. Once you are done restart and start in normal mode and download the latest drivers and install them.

Just restarted my computer and I get nothing, I still have a black screen with no video input

Nope, I turn the computer on and get nothing on screen, the computer sounds like it's starting up normally, my keyboard lights up, but I have no video input to my monitor. I'm using display port at the moment, should I try changing to HDMI?

Hi again,
I tried changing to a HDMI and it seemed to work for reason. I then un-installed all nvidia programs, restarted, installed the new driver, and it seems to be working for now.

Ah that is good to hear. Next time you install I suggest you remember your settings or write them down and always do clean installs. I've had problems with normal installs before and that's why I always do clean installs on gpu driver and manually set settings after that (though it might be just that I am too paranoid).

That sounds like a good plan to me. And it's always better to be safe than sorry, I just never guessed that something so simple could go so wrong. Thanks for all your help anyway.
