tried to upgrade to win 10, watched for 3&1/2 hrs, never finished. Stopped process, now setup says its cleanong up before clos

Went to library for good signal, tried to upgrade to win 10 from win 8.1. Watched it spinning for 4 hours, never finished. Stopped the process, got a screen saying setup is cleaning up before it closes. Been spinning for 6 more hours, never stops. Win 10 won't let me shut down or restart. Laptop is Dell 13.3, I7 5th gen, sshd. Can you direct me?

If it would never stop the update chances are you may need to do a clean install of Windows 10 instead. First make sure to back up all your files.
