I'm seeing a lot of information on manual trimming of your SSD under XP but is there any software or way to automate the process through a scheduled task or the like. I just aquired a HD S700 SSD to which I'd like to install XP. I don't think this drive comes with it's own utility software. Any good third party software that will work?

Certain software will only run on XP.

Can this software be run in a VM?

I have a legitimate copy of XP already that isn't installed on anything. The computer in question will not be hooked up to a network save for initial setup. Some SSDs come with software utilities that supposedly allow one to trim manual in XP. If this is true, can an automated trim be scheduled? Why would I want to blow 100+ bucks on an OS I don't really need or like such as Windows 10?

Can this software be automated to run the TRIM? Maybe, probably.

Is there any real reason to use an SSD with this XP install?
What is the application, and what are the rest of the parts?

You are better off creating a VM\XP Mode on a newer OS and cutting off internet access to the VM so it can only be used locally. Disconnecting XP from the internet is the only way to really secure it. Plus with a VM\XP Mode you can run it ontop of a newer OS without any problems.

I went ahead and installed Win 7 just for the heck of it and might have discovered something rather interesting. I installed Win 7 from one of my original discs onto the machine and did not input any key. The installation process proceeded without a hitch, I was able to apply all updates and I haven't been presented with any nagging Windows Genuine alerts as of yet. Is Microsoft no longer requiring registration as support for 7 is ending or has ended? I'll purchase a key or upgrade to Win 10 but so far that system is working like a champ regardless. Funny, this dual core AMD Kuma @ 3.2Ghz with 4 gigs of memory a GTX 670 and this new HP s700 SSD is now scoring a 7.9 windows experience index, whereas my i5 3570K @4.2Ghz 16 gigs or memory with a GTX 970 and 2 conventional 1TB HDDs is only scoring 5.9. I know the windows experience index is not a reliable indicator of system performance but still, made me laugh my tail off.

It has been a while since I last installed Win 7, but after installation you can use it for 30 days as a free trial. I believe it can be extended for another 90; I don't recall the command to do so. After that point the free trial window can no longer be extended and Win 7 will automatically shutdown the PC every 1 or 2 hours.
