I am running a hardware RAID 10 setup with 4 ssds. At first I was trying to figure out how to upgrade the firmware while the drives are attached to the RAID card... but before I even did this, I read that TRIM support is NOT supported by most RAID cards (mine is an Adaptec 5000 series).
Apparently the Motherboard cannot send instructions on TRIM to the drives behind the RAID card.
IF (and only if) this is true - do I even need to bother with trying to update the firmware on the SSDs? As I understand it, the essential reason to update firmware is for TRIM support and other similar wear-leveling enhancements. If indeed, I CANNOT obtain those while attached to a hardware RAID card... it seems it's a moot point.
