Trimming case fans

I have a corsair af120 fan, but the 212 evo's size wont let me put it in my Sentey GS 6007. Would it be a bad idea to trim the fan? Furthermore, would it be a good idea to put a case fan outside with a anti-dust filter?

It's a bad idea to trim the fan. It'd be better and safer if you put the fan inside the case, what airflow do you currently have in your case?
