What are my options? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to order?
Currently I have 9gb on board but not sure how to upgrade...I want at least 16..
I have a pre-built older hp and from what they document these are the specs:
my set up is hpe 580t.
Per hp Motherboard is ipmtb-tk truckee
Per website scan pegatron 2a86
Core i7-950 (Bloomfield) (130W), 3.0 GHz
Both sources reflect below

Six 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets
Supports PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066) DIMM types
Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
Supports 4 GB DDR3 DIMMs
Supports up to 24 GB on 64-bit PCs

Also cannot find a manual anywhere on the order they need to be. I've read here that often there aren't manuals for hp motherboards.

So first am I correct in assuming that can I only put a max 4gb in each slot? I can't do higher than that in one slot?
2nd do I have to buy 3 and how should I go about doing that?I pretty much can't find any sets of three that meet the specs described above and really can't find alot of individual... So am I sol? Because as far I know it has to be ddr3 dimm, and 1066 and non ecc...

As far as I can tell not sure if I have to upgrade in sets up 3 only when it seems the majority are in sets of 2.

To make it more confusing per their website there was an option on the same pc for memory choices of the following :8 GB (4 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (messaged as PC3-8500)
9 GB (2 x 4 GB, 1 x 1 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (messaged as PC3-8500)
12 GB (6 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (messaged as PC3-8500)
16 GB (4 x 4 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (messaged as PC3-8500)
18 GB (3 x 4 GB, 3 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (messaged as PC3-8500)
24 GB (6 x 4 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (messaged as PC3-8500)

Does this mean I can use that as benchmark for what memory configurations my motherboard can take?
Heres is my reference : https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02682449

Since you're dealing with a triple channel memory controller/architecture, it's advised to go in multiples of three. You have 6 slots open for population and your maximum ram capacity is 24GB rated to accept DDR3-1333MHz, 1.65v at the very least.

Simply put, just divide the number of slots with the maximum capacity to understand the maximum capacity of ram you can populate in each slot. Being a triple channel platform, you can go for 12GB(3x4GB).

I'm not an advocate of mixing and matching rams, which is why I'd advise on ditching your existing ram and pick up the 3/6 identical sticks of ram or one(or two) triple channel ram kit. I would do 9GB of ram, simply because the last slot is not the same capacity as the other two. Think of ram upgrades like buying a pair of shoes, if you loose one shoe out of the pair, do you buy one or a pair from the store?

IMHO, I'd go for 12GB or 24GB.

Thank you so for my follow up questions..
If lets say i'd go for the 24GB.. I think financially it would be better to do 3 8gb, however correct me if i'm wrong I can only do a max 4 in each slot... ? so then in theory i need 6 slots of 4 gb each...

Also its proving difficult to find sets of three that meet the specs required by my system. Lets pretend I want to do 4 gb in each slot, should I try for 2 sets of 3 or do you think 3 sets of 2 would be okay?

upgrading to just 12gb from my existing 9gb seems like a waste...

TIA!! (really appreciated)
