It is, but it might not be the best idea. Dual channel motherboards are populated 2 dimms at a time. With 3 dimms you'll have an extra ram chip causing the motherboard to put more stress on the memory controller. Not a big deal at all unless you're gaming and/or overclocking. So your ram will run faster if you just use 2 dimms
