I have an older Asus P6T X58 motherboard with 6 x 2GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM. ( two triple channel sets of Corsair XMS) One of the sticks developed errors and I removed it. I now have one set of triple channel and one set of dual channel (?) installed. I'm curious as to how this affects performance and if it maybe would be better to remove the 2 odd sticks for now instead of running the mixed combo. I really hate to lose the extra 4GB RAM, tho.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the issue. Thank you.

Solution
I think what will happen is that the matched capacity of 6gb will operate in triple channel mode and the remaining odd 4gb will be in single channel mode.

Regardless, I think you are much better off with more ram.
Intel is not particularly sensitive to ram speeds when running apps or games.
