Hi! I'm coming back to gaming after years (used to play back in Enemy Territory times) of being out of the game (excuse the pun).

I've set up a rig, but I'm really confused to what's currently in the market regarding monitors and monitor set ups for gaming.

My specs:
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 EXTREME6
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell)
VGA: 2x (SLI) EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Superclock ACX 2048MB
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower XT 1275W ' 80 Plus Platinum'
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro Silver 16GB (2x8GB)
HDD: Samsung 128GB SSD 840 PRO
HDD2: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler

Basically would like some pointers at what triple monitor display my set-up will be able to handle, and if possible currently best brands/what gamers are getting.

N.B. Was particularly looking at the BenQ XL2420T. Is that any good? Read some issues re: colours.

Yeah, just get 1920x1200 monitors for better gaming experience especially in triple monitor setup, 1920x1080 is just too wide... instead of triple 1080p, go for two 2560x1080 which is really wide and you'll dislike it, 1200p is the best way to go in my opinion especially when you want a 24"...

I was asking regarding monitors though. I have already bought the parts.

Basically I'm asking what size of monitors (hence resolution), my set-up will allow for gaming, bearing in mind that I will be using a triple monitors set up, and what monitors i should get for that set-up (as I'm not really knowledgeable about what's currently good on the market).

Do you think my set-up (which I can't change now) of dual-SLI GTX 770 (2gb) would be able to handle 3 monitors each supplying 1920x1080/1200 ? Or should I rather go with a 30" 2560x1600 ?

the two 770 with 2GB VRAM probably wont be enough for triple 1080p/1200p but your fine with 30" 2560x1600 guarantee, in the future of gaming(BF4?) 2GB VRAM will be your biggest problem in gaming at highest quality... I preferable would go with a single monitor and in your case it's the 30". Reason why is that I dont like seeing the bezel on the monitor during games, in video/photo editing I would have no problem but gaming is a different story, for me that is.. Also, if you want a wide view awhile in game, you should get those 21:9 2560x1080, they usually comes in 29" with a really wide view but the only problem is that it doesn't curve, i remember seeing one that curve but i forgot what it's called...

I managed to change my order and got 2-SLI 4gb versions of the gtx770 instead. I'm guessing I should be able to handle 3 1920x1080/1220 monitors well now right?

Another question that has popped to mind...

I've been looking at a number of monitors now and looking at a lot of reviews. I'm also noticing the big 60Hz vs 120Hz debate going on.

From what I read, 120Hz seems to be a nice feature to have, considering you will be getting >60fps.

My question is this: Considering a triple monitor display of 1920x1080 (total 5760x1080), would I be able to keep ultra gfx settings and get frame rates high enough to make 3x120Hz monitors worth it? (Reminder: I am now getting 2-way SLI 4gb GTX 770).

You choose, do you want the best gaming experience with high frames rate(which you'll most likely would) or do you want the best gaming experience with more better view of the game?
your 770 may pull 120FPS in most games but in some very demanding games you wont be reaching 120FPS(120Hz) in triple setup so might as well go with 60Hz/60FPS monitors with bigger resolution/display. The biggest benefit in 120FPS monitors is 3D lol...
I'd still go with 1920x1200 monitor
i'd go with 1920x1080 for "3D" with 120Hz but it's just me...
