I'm upgrading my pc this christmas
FROM:
I7 2600
8GB RAM
GTX520 1GB
single monitor
TO:
I7 2600
8GB RAM
GTX970 (maybe 2 eventually)
triple monitor.
I know its a huge jump from a 520 to a 970 but I played with triple monitors a few days ago and I'm hooked. I hear 3 X 1080 is similar to 4K resolution. Will I have a bottleneck anywhere? Should I get a better CPU? More RAM? The 3 monitors that I'm getting are 21.5" and so is my old one. Is there anything I can do with the extra? I've seen setups with a 4th monitor on top of the others. What could I use it for? Is there anything else I'm missing? Is there anything super wrong with my future setup?

Solution
while you could say that 3x 1080p is almost 4k, it's nowhere near the same. With 4k it's the pixel density that makes the graphics stand out. But triple monitor does have it's advantages when it comes to multi tasking. I usually have a MMO playing at 1080p on my central monitor with Internet on the left and media player on the right.

Your PC should be fine as is. I game with pretty much the same setup with the exception I use a GTX 680. Just keep in mind that the ultra wide screen doesn't always play nice with all games. So be prepared to look for fixes. Be sure to check out flawless widescreen

Okay. what do you think would be a better experience? 4K or 3X1080?
