I currently use two 60Hz 1920×1080 monitors on Radeon R9 270X. I usually game on one (DVI connection), while I watch/listen to Youtube/Discord on the other (VGA connection as the display is oldish).

I plan to upgrade my GPU to 2060 Super and buy a new 27inch IPS 2560x1440 144Hz display.
The main question is: will all this monstrosity work?
  1. Gaming 2K display with up to 144Hz on DP.
  2. Two 1080p displays on 60Hz doing youtube/discord/outlook/etc - one on DVI and the other on VGA (with adaptors ofc.)

The bonus question is - how much negative effect the two additional old monitors will have on the performance on the main 2K gaming display?

Many thanks for your input!

Solution
1| Yes.
2| You will need to make sure the card you pick has the necessary connectors. If you go for an adapter, it should be an active adapter, if the card you're looking at doesn't have native DVI support. You will need a VGA adapter to power one of your monitors.
3| To be honest, it will reduce the overall frame rates you see when compared to just one standalone monitor but by a small margin.

I'm worried seeing how you have a R9 270x. What is the make and model of your PSU and how old is it?

The PSU is Corsair 650RM, so I am not worried about it handling the new GPU. When building my system I specifically opted not to upgrade my GPU at that time but account for the power load, as it was sufficient for World of Warcraft at that time and I was tight on budget. The system overall contains CPU i5-7600k with 16GB of RAM, two SATA SSD and a DVD.

I checked that 2060 Super in principle supports up to 4 displays and the cards usually have at least one DP and two HDMI ports (like the MSI Gaming X). I will need one HDMI to DVI and one HDMI to VGA adapter. I do not know what to do with my current two 1080p displays, besides to keep them for the extra pixel real estate. So I just wanted to be sure that the load of these two will not cripple significantly the performance on the new 1440p 144Hz shiny, before I order a dual monitor stand for them.
