Hi, I'd like to get a tripod for my canon and would like to ask for advice,
other than weight, is there anything I should lookout for?

Unstable, rocky, muddy, unlevel surfaces. Get a tripod with a bubble level in
it.

You really need two tripods. A small one and a large one.
