Hello all,

I recently started using my 720+'s for PC. I noticed that when I plugged them in, that it only registered 5.1 surround instead on 7.1 on the Realtek Optical Out. I've looked all over the internet but couldn't find a solution. Any thoughts?

I'd love to get the 7.1 working so I can hear sound from "behind" me.

Thanks for the reply.

So on the box for Dolby, it has two lights. One is Dobly PLIIx, and the other is Dolby D. When I'm just on my desktop, Dolby D is not lit up, however, when I enter a game, it turns on. The only button I have on the box that doesn't turn it off, is next to Dolby D. The first click turns the light on the right from blue to green, which has a clapboard as the icon. Then when I press it again, only dobly D is lit up, but everything to the main speakers turns into Stereo.

Is one of these settings correct? I'm kind of new to operating audio boxes like this. 😛

Thanks again for the reply ^_^.

i think the surround is only enabled once you are in a game or using an application with surround, otherwise i believe it is outputting stereo at all other times, if you go onto your playback devices you may be able to enable dolby live output at all times but stereo sources such as music will need an audio DSP in the media player to upconvert to surround to get more than 2 channels.

It's very strange, lol. Even on desktop, somehow, it plays everything in 5.1, even all the windows noises. There is an extremely notable difference between that and stereo. But that kinda sucks. Now I won't know if it's actually in 7.1 🙁

And I checked, I'm not able to force the output. Anyways thanks for the help ^_^.

Oh yeah, I have Realtek 888-S (or 888-S-VC, not entirely sure though), if that changes anything.

So really, it's not true 7.1? Do motherboards today support 7.1? I'm building a new pc soon, and i'd be nice to have true 7.1. It's the ASUS P9X79 PRO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131800&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Okay. So I just looked at the board, and in the description it says 7.1. So that isn't true 7.1? And also, I noticed the Plug from the headset to the controller (when then goes to the box), only has two stereo 3.5 connectors. So basically did I get ripped off? The company and box stated it was true 7.1.

:O

Wow a world of rip off's. It's funny too since it stated the Optical was 7.1. Wow, never been so disappointed. Whatever, I bought this over 6 months ago, so, probably no going back on that decision!
