When I turn up the POT all the way I still only get faint sound
turning down the pot just turns it to mute. What are some of the
things I should check to resolve this? I have checked all the
connectors and didn't find anything wrong there.

make sure you're getting +12 to the MCR sound board.

Make sure one of you leads isn't broken from the sandwich to the mcr
sound board.
The "strand" was clipped on mine so I got no sound.
