Whenever I try to use a VPN (In this case cyberghost5) it just disconnects my internet and when I turn it off everything goes normal again. I also tried Hotspot Shield and I doesn't work
I have no experience with those two programs you mentioned, but it sounds like the VPN adapter has a default gateway assigned which is overruling your usual default gateway thus killing your connection, set the VPN's adapter's default gateway to blank and see if the problem persists.

I can't seem to find how to disable the default gateway, it might be because I'm using Windows XP (SP3), I know it's a bit (very) old but I've got no other option. When I go to the advanced settings of the adapter where the settings should be it just shows me this
In the previous window before going into "advanced settings" you can select TCP/IP version 4, click on it to select it and then choose "properties", post an image of that window.

I see, seems the VPN server is assigning you a default gateway, it shouldn't be doing that, unless you can get the admin to fix that, your only chance is to enable the splitting-tunnel option like Onus said in your VPN software.

I'm going to try to uninstall the VPN and see if that changes
