Hello all,

I recently got an 480 GB Intel SSD 530 series and I'm currently attempting to clone my hard drive to the SSD as a replacement for the HDD. However, after 2-3 hours of the cloning process the progress bar will complete on the Casper 8.0 software and a window will come up telling me that too many errors were received and the cloning could not be completed. I don't know much about this stuff so here is a small portion of the activity log in the report it gives me after the failure:

Sorry if that clutters everything up or is hard to read; I don't know of a better way to post that information.

If it helps at all I am on Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo Y580 Ideapad. The HDD is a 1 TB 5400 RPM drive with only about 300 GB taken up. After the first attempt I thought it could just be an issue with my user permissions in the \C:\\Windows\Temp folder, since any attempts to access it were denied but after giving my profile full permissions to everything AND running Casper in Administrator mode it still failed and gave me the same errors that you see above.

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong/how to get around these errors. Thank you!

Solution
try running chkdsk /f after that change your migration software, try this http://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/components/migrate-OS-to-SSD/ it hasn't failed me yet.
A fresh clean install of the operating system, software applications, games, and utilities is the preferred method. Cloning software works reasonably well for the majority of users but sometimes glitches develop. This forum has a lot more questions about cloning problems than fresh clean installations.

There is a second reason for doing a fresh clean install. Over time the operating system installed on a drive tends to collect a lot of files that are no longer necessary. Microsoft Windows does not do a very good job of deleting those files and registry entries. Cloning just transfers those useless files to the new drive.

Didn't mean to click choose as best solution XD

I tried running the chkdsk /f and no dice. Haven't tried the paragon software though, I will try it tonight.

I would do this but the thing is I don't have the disks or anything for an install of the OS (Windows 8). When I bought my Lenovo Windows 8 was already preinstalled and it didn't come with any disks or anything... and Lenovo charges money to send those disks to me if I want them.

No it didn't 🙁

At the very least I need to get my copy of Windows 8 onto the SSD. I don't have the money to buy another Win 8 license and my laptop came preloaded with the OS, no CD's or anything were included. I've done a bit of researching and have found out I might be able to create a recovery USB drive using the software Win 8 has included, and use that to boot and install Win 8 on the SSD, unless I'm misunderstanding. The license key for Win 8 is apparently embedded in the motherboard of my laptop, so hopefully I won't need another license this way.

Can anyone verify that this will work? I can transfer/redownload everything else, I'm mainly concerned about getting the OS on to the SSD without buying another copy.
