Hey, I cloned my main drive to my SSD. I went into BIOS to make the SSD my boot drive, abd it wouldn't work, would say to reboot and select proper boot device. I put in my Windows CD and now I don't know if I should back up my PC to earlier settings. I am very lost so please any help is welcomed because I am tired of dealing with problems cloning, etc.

Solution

With only the SSD connected, possibly try a Repair from your Windows DVD.
try cloning again, and i'd suggest using EaseUS ToDo Backup - (google them) - download the free version. I've been using their freeware version since 2008 - by far the easiest interface, and clones much faster than any other software out there.

Once installed, suggest you select the "clone" feature (top right on their taskbar). Once in the cloning function, after you've selected the subject OS drive, on the next page where you select the target disk to clone to, be sure to select, at the bottom, "Optimize for SSD" and select "sector by sector".

and do use the clone, NOT the backup function. Whenever i clone my OS drive, if i don't select "sector by sector", the cloned drive will not boot unless i install the windows dvd and do a "repair" -

Okay, I managed to restore my UEFI settings to default so I got into Windows and am looking at my SSD. What should I be looking for or doing now?

In the bottom portion, on the line that is your SSD, what partitions are on there?
A screenshot of the Disk Management window would help here.

Too small and fuzzy, and your File Explorer window is covering up the good parts...:)

When I set the SSD as my boot drive, my BIOS or whatever said "Reboot and select proper boot device." I had to put in my Windows CD to restore to a backup. There was boot order and there was a smaller file about boot order. In both, I made the SSD my boot drive, my 3TB drive (previously had all my data until cloned to the boot drive) as my 2nd drive, and my spare 1TB internal drive that I backed up on as my 3rd drive. I tried different configurations but they all displayed that message.

I unplugged the other two drives, and I didn't even have to put in the WIndows CD! The SSD loaded normally and everything is so much faster!!!! However, I don't know the problem with the other drives, but I'd like to know what I can do to keep them and use them for bulk storage because the SSD only has about 20GB of free space left.
