Hi,

I am trying to assemble a PC with a 5960X, an MSI X99A SLI Plus motherboard, and a Noctua NH-D14 with the NM-I2011 mounting kit. I've got the standoffs and 2 brackets installed on the motherboard in the right orientation, and changed the brackets on the heatsink to the ones supplied in the kit. When I go to install the heatsink, the threaded studs coming out of the motherboard brackets aren't far enough apart, and I can't align the two sprung screws over the studs. Any suggestions?

Solution
unfortunately the NH D14 does not have official support for 2011V3 sockets.
you need a mounting kit. the NH D15 has official support for it though.
contact Noctua or try to find a mounting kit.

the noctua site
states that
Socket compatibility

Intel LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, LGA1150, LGA775, LGA2011 on request, Asus X-socket™ & AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, FM2+ (backplate required)

you need to request the 2011-3 socket mounting kit

or you aren't using the proper technique. I noticed the bracket sry.
anyways it took me some force and 15min to figure out how to install my cooler. the spring loaded screws required much more force than I thought
make sure you are suing the right screws and the...

I've got the brackets running horizontally across the board, so the cooler's fans are pulling air from the front of the case and exhausting out of the back. If I rotate the brackets and cooler, it will be blowing down the board towards the PCI slots. It's just a few millimeters off, I don't get why it's not fitting properly.

make sure you are suing the right screws and the right plate, and the backplate is facing the right direction. the rounded side to the board. the sharp side outside. and right screws and washers are used.
