I bought a second hand Dell XPS 420, it was working when I bought it. Took it home and tried booting it up. After 4 or 5 times of pushing the power button it booted. The nic card wasn't working and I wanted to put some USB 3 in the box so I shut it down put in the Nic and had the same problem, it took me maybe 8 or 9 times of powering it on for it to boot. I later got my USB 3 card and installed it and tried booting it up but no go . I'm thinking it's the power button or the power supply. Removed PS and put in a new 750 ATX Nothing. the power light is lit, the power button light is on I tried to find the schematic for the power on switch so that I could jumper it to see it the system would boot but can't find one. Anyone know what 2 jumper pins to use? And any advice as to what might be the mater?. Cheers

Does it not boot, or does it not power on (no fans, no hard drive spinning, or anything)?

Typically there is 2 pins from the case that goes to the motherboard for the power button. Now dell for a good period of time used a special cirucit board that combined the usb/audio/power button and then it uses a propritery cable to go to the motherboard.

If you have a traditional setup you just need to find the header pins and make a quick one second contact with the a screwdriver to jumper it. If it is the later then I hope you can get your money back, otherwse you will be playing buy parts to find the broken one game.
