Trouble with Asus Gtx 780 pins

For reference. It's the 780 OC edition.
I built this myself (new to buiding) this is the final step and I'm stumped. I'm using hdmi. I think both lights have to be green for it to work. I tried every possible combination and none worked (even if they weren't both green). My monitor kept saying plug the PCIe cables to power my gpu. I had one combination that worked, the 6 pin and then the 2 pin, and it was completely green. But instead of giving me the error message nothing came through the monitor at all. Can someone school me on this?

You just need to find your 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors coming from your power supply. You had both of them in the first picture you posted. They are labeled PCI-E. Just find one that is 8-pin (has eight holes in it) and one that is 6-pin (6 holes) and plug them into your GPU and you should be set.
