I have heard that HP lock their BIOS, and I plan to upgrade my current HP pavillion 500-368na gpu to an evga gtx 750 2gb gddr5, also, for future proofing, an EVGA 500 watt psu, but someone told me that HP lock their BIOS, and this prevents any upgrades, I then went on the HP forums, and they said that they do lock their BIOS, but it does not prevent video card upgrades, will I have any problems upgrading my video card?

Solution
In my experience the "lock" is more about stopping overclocking in any way and to only certain CPU's. I have yet to have an BIOS related issue when upgrading a GPU. I believe it is Apple that locks down all the hardware.

I've an HP. Hp more or less blocks their BIOS in notebooks and laptops..Nothing else..If you had a laptop, and tried something on your MXM slot..then yes you would face problems...on a desktop with pci e? Not at all. No problemo.

I have a memphis-s motherboard, with a pcie x16 1.1 slot, the evga gtx 750, is suppose to be for a pci 3.0, but they are all backwards compatible. People say that there is only about 5% increase/decrease in performance in this scenario, is this true?
