Troubles with locking up

Anyone have a problem like this:

During the single player loading screen (while it is loading the level,
not the startup splash screen) the game just hangs up. It just sits
there. I can't get past about the 10th single player game because of
this problem.

I closed all other programs running in the background and I even
installed all the new patches but nothing works.

Have any suggestions? I already emailed the tech support, but I am
still waiting for an email back.

*) What OS are you using?
*) What version of the game do you have?
*) Have you tried the following already?
1. Clean your cache.
2. Make sure you exit _all_ unneeded background programs.
3. Download AdAware and run & upgrade it regularly.
4. Switch to OpenGL.
5. Defragment your harddisk every week.
6. Make sure you run the latest official version of UT and/or 2K3.
7. Upgrade all your drivers to the latest version.
8. Re-install DirectX.
9. If you have a Via MoBo, install the 4-in-1 drivers.

I run Windows XP. I have the latest verison of UT2004 (I downloaded
the patch).

I will try those, but some I don't know what that means. What is
cleaning out your cache mean? How do you do that?

I have discovered something since the last time I wrote this question:
If I let the loading screen sit for 5 mins. or so it will finally load
the level and it will play just fine! Everything works great. The
main thing is during the first few levels it only takes about 30 secs.
to load the level but after the 5th or 6th level comes up, it takes
forever to load!

I am running a:
3.2 Gig Pentium 4
512 Mb memory
64 Mb n-vidia G-Force FX card
75 Gig hard drive

I know my specs are good enough to run the game, that is why I wonder
what the hold up is for loading some levels.

Ok. Make sure you install all the patches, update all your drivers,
and switch UT to OpenGL.

Never tell us "latest", always tell us a number. I've seen people
downloading patches from obsolete sites, etc. So to reduce the amount
of noise in our communication, please just stick to hard information.

See our FAQ. http://www.unrealtower.org/faqsearch/cache

So it's a timeout of some sort.

You can check out UT's log file and see if you note anything special
there.

The last time I saw that problem, it seemed to be because the server became full
while you were loading the level, and the game didn't know what to do.
Restarting UT confirmed that the server was full.

However, this seems to have been fixed in the ECE update.
