Troubleshooting issues with my rig. Not sure if these problems are caused by one problematic source or not.

  • CPU: i5 2500k OC'd to 4.2 GHz (I've turned this off as of a day or so ago just in case)
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 670 (had a stable OC going but the values got reset, the values I entered from memory ended up being unstable, not sure if this is relevent info or not)
    PSU: OCZ 750W ZT series
    MOBO: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
    RAM: 8 GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1600
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB (my boot device/has my OS on it)
    OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

I'll try to summarize my problems as quickly and as cleanly as possible, but that might be a bit hard.

Around a year or so ago I was having some problems with my SSD. I had a few crashes that I'm assuming had to do with my SSD and when I'd try to start my PC back up my SSD wouldn't show up as my boot device. This persisted for awhile, but recently has gone away. Installing new firmware also helped. As of late I've had little to no issues with my SSD.

On to my graphics card! I should mention that I tried overclocking my GPU a few months back. My OC was seemingly stable until the values got reset. I tried to re-input the values by memory but it seemed VERY unstable, so I turned it off. About 4-5 days ago I was playing CoD: Advanced Warfare and my PC completely crashed. I should mention that earlier that day I got onto my computer and there was some massive artifacting happening on my second monitor. Well, after the CoD crash I booted my computer back up to find a lot more massive artifacting. Here's a picture: http://i.imgur.com/ODvWo1a.jpg (still not sure why the ad isn't being affected.) Anyway, I've seen a few artifacts since then, but nothing awful. I've since then taken out my GPU following the issues with my HDD that I'm about to expand upon.

Now, at this point in time I thought that the only thing going bad was my GPU, but then my HDD started acting up. At first it seemed to just completely disappear. I checked My Computer and it wasn't there. This scared me pretty badly. I tried to boot my PC again, but it only got to the Windows loading screen where the circular loading thingy would just spin and spin. So I unplugged the HDD, leaving the SSD all alone. The computer booted perfectly fine and worked normally. I took my HDD to another computer, because at this point it wasn't working whatsoever. It seemed to show up on another computer, so I put it back into mine. My computer booted fine (after awhile of messing with SATA cables and such), but everything that's on said HDD seems to move at a snail's pace. While I still had my GPU in I tried to start a few games, namely: Wasteland 2, Divinity: Original Sin, and Hearthstone. All of these games would either crash or sit on the first loading screen for eternity.

Anyway, that's about the gist of what's happening right now. Any advice would be appreciated. And no, I don't have another computer that's compatible with my GPU. I don't really have any other PC's that are compatible with my hardware, other than my HDD obviously.

I'm beginning to think that rather than one thing causing all of this (motherboard, PSU, etc.), I'm thinking that they're all coincidentally failing. I'm still not completely convinced though, I think it very well could be my PSU or motherboard causing these things. The next things I'm probably going to try if I don't get any responses on here is: reinstalling windows, and buying some new components on black friday. Also, I'm putting this post in "Storage" because the main problem at this moment is my HDD.

TL;DR: Had problems with my SSD awhile back. I had problems with my GPU about 4-5 days ago. I'm now having major issues with my HDD. Are they connected, or just coincidence?

If you want to see my old troubleshooting posts on reddit, here they are. I'll post them chronologically:

try using that hdd using a known good cable and plug it into a different slot on your motherboard and see if that helps

your power supply is of good quality as I just read a review on techpowerup

Thanks, I'll try a different SATA and update after I do so.

I switched the SATA cable I had in my DVD drive into my HDD and it didn't seem to change anything. I would test out this software but when my HDD is hooked up I can't even get past the Windows loading screen again. And I'm not worried about losing any data at this point. I have everything I care about backed up on an external hard drive.

Edit: I'll try to coax my PC into starting with the HDD hooked up. I have a few files I want to add onto the external HD anyway. If I get it booted up I'll run the seagate test software.
