I've started having weird problems with the 290x. It will randomly crash (sometimes when I am playing games, other times when I am just browsing on Chrome) and my monitor will get no signal. The motherboard reads a "b2" code, which means "Legacy Option ROM initialization", whatever that means. All fans are still operational, even on not-working graphics card. I have to do a hard restart to get the card working again, but it will eventually crash again.
I removed the GPU and used just the integrated graphics without a problem. I assume this means the GPU is the problem. Is there any way it could be an unreliable power supply that doesn't give the GPU enough power, or a bad PCIe slot on the mobo?
What should I RMA?

having the same problem with an r9 290. I thought it might be overheating.. still might. I'm not a guru, but I took off one of the covers and layed the box on it's side so the heat could rise directly out of it.. This may have helped, as the black screen appears to not happen as much.. but it still happens.

I RMAd the card and the PSU, and had the same problem.

I have noticed that if I unplug/turn off the PSU the problem goes away for awhile (sometimes up to several days) before becoming more frequent again. I saw a thread where a few other people had problems with Gigabyte motherboards and had to RMA them for a faulty BIOS chip. Probably trying this the next time I am at home and can take this bad boy apart.

Do you also have a Gigabyte motherboard?

ASUS mobo

I ordered a 1000W PSU and another case fan the other day with the idea that I'm either under-powering or over-heating the card. We'll see if that works. I've already tried updating the bios, different drivers / driver sweep.. doesn't seem to do it. I got to a point where I could not even get CCC to install.. will try again when all the parts get here.
