Hello Tom's Forum. So I want to buy a pair of Canyon Over-Head CNS-CHP3 Blue which has a very short cable length(type:TRRS) and I want to extend it by using a adapter Kruger&Matz Jack 3.5 mm Male - Jack 3.5 mm Female type TRS. I want to know if the TRS-TRRS are compatible, and if they are, will it affect the audio and volume quality? Thanks.
Info:I want to use them for PC(if it helps).

trs and trrs are different.

trs is 3pole (tip ring sleeve)
trrs is 4pole (tip ring ring sleeve)

if you want to extend the trrs cable you need a female to male 4pole 3.5mm cable (3.5mm trrs female to male extension cable)

trrs is generally used for headsets to combine both microphone and headphone audio on the same cable. trs is commonly used for headphone or stereo mics.

Sorry for late reply first of all.

So you are saying that they aren't compatible? I read here and there that if i would connect a TRRS to a TRS it would just shortcut the mic of the headset?

I asked the shop's live support and they said that using a TRS adapter on a TRRS it wouldn't create problems and it shouldn't damage the audio quality(but then again I kinda doubt the shop's live support - makes sense why I am asking here)

Can you explain more in depth on this particular situation, please?

>Will it work?
>What would suffer to connect them this way?The mic?
>Will the audio quality and volume suffer?

in most cases, yes you can plug trrs into a trs connector and only have headphone audio and you would lose out on the microphone. if you want to keep the microphone you would need a trrs cable (if plugging into a phone or similar device) or a trrs to two trs connector cable (for plugging into pc).

depends on what you want to achieve.

That's excellent. I want just the audio 'cause this headphones have a good mic but the right speaker is damaged and it's kinda frustrating when the volume is at medium saying the least.. so it turned out well then :) . Thanks.

I know this is a 6 month old thread, but thought I'd bump this instead of making a new one...

The detachable cable that came with my headphones is male-to-male TRRS. It is only 1.4 m long, and I was thinking about getting an extension cable (male-to-female), but figured it would probably be better to just buy a longer male-to-male cable. The only ones I can find for a reasonable price are TRS. Woud this work for my headphones? I know a TRS extension cable will work fine with a TRS, but I figured it might be different considering this plugs directly into the headphones...?

Ideally I'm looking for a 3m cable, and I'm struggling to find any trrs at that length on UK ebay or amazon. The headphones don't have a microphone, so I'm not worried about that. Would it work just for headphone audio?

A brand new (April 2016) computer headset with mic built into the cable and TRRS (Tip Ring Ring Sleeve) male jack works great with the audio only green input port on my laptop. It also works great with my electronic music keyboard (there the headset's 3.5mm TRRS plug is plugged into a 1/4" stereo plug since the keyboard doesn't have a port for the thinner 3.5 mm plug). BTW, the headset also works on my stereo system (boom box) where I originally plugged it into the audio in port and then the phones port -- both names were the same color (black) just burned into the cabinet. So it appears to be "fool proof" so far.
