This is a minor annoyance that has been plaguing me for years, concerning the icon for TrueType fonts.

A TrueType font icon is an ABC representation of the typeface. But there are some fonts out there represented by Greek lettering. See this example:

I am a font collector, which is why I feel annoyed by this. When I'm browsing my font folder for the right typeface, I like to see the true representation of that font.

Naturally, a Google search doesn't help because nobody on Earth has experienced anything remotely similar to this issue. I've been wondering...is there a method of fixing this, or why this happens?

Any info would be appreciated.

Let be preface this by saying I know nothing about font files. That said, an icon is an icon. I'm familiar with using icons in executable programs, images, and pictures. There are utilities available to extract, edit, and save the icons that I use in my programs. You might try looking for a way to extract the font's icon image from the font file and then design your own icon for the fonts in your collection and inject that icon back into the font file.

I use a freeware product named Greenfish Icon Editor Pro (sfty107b.zip) but I've never tried it with a font file. If this one won't do the job some further searching for font and/or icon editors might yield something you can use.
