trying to add DDR 2 DIMM to Asus p5q-E core 2 quad 2.67MHz system

currently using Corsiar xms 4x2 800 Mhz running windows 8.1 x64.
the spec for the board calls for:

• 
  P45/ich10r intel FMA
  1600/1333/1066/800 MHz
  4 x DIMM, max. 16GB, DDR2 1200/1066/800/667MHz, non-ECC, un-buffered memory

like to increase to at least 12 GB by replace a pair with 2x4GB
but find Intel ram are really expensive whereas amd ram is cheap
cheapest Intel 16GB is from China thru Ebay <$200 ( wait time is probably long)

any reliable inexpensive source of ram for this PC?

There's no such thing as Intel, non Intel or AMD only DDR2 RAM. You are free to use any DDR2 from that list or any with same details as those ones on the list. Those lists (QVL) are in now way complete and only just some they tested with.

so I thought but some third party factory may not have complete jdec info for the bios to recognize and boot with; some other thread on this forum say so.

just to make sure: so long the ram is ddr2 1.8v 800 mhz or pc 6400 1710 with timeing like those in the qvl will work just fine, right?

I found one vendor with reasonable price
but the only spec is on the Dimm label as 1.8v pc-6400-1710 no detail of timing so not so sure wasting money on that.
the other vendor is dirty cheap but the spec specifically says "will not not work on intel motherboard"

Some Intel platforms were sensitive about RAM being single or double sided, that's all but if you get RAM with same characteristics as those in QVL, chances are much better.

apparently any ddr2 dimm available from the web tends to look shorter : instead of 2 full side slots at ends, only one and half slots, leaving a lot less space between top edge and bottom edge( the pin edge). also timing info is lacking

However I did find one listing that looks perfectly ok in terms of timing, voltage (1.8), dimm shape and slots on end, height, and dirt cheap $71.44 for 4 4GB unmatched.
however the vendor specified this AMD memory will not work on intel chipsets. that would mean at least no support for intel. if rxd ram does not work with my intel rig, no support, no refund unless I tell the vendor about ordering by mistake.

Actually, RAM sticks can be "Double sided" even with chips only on one side. Real designation is Single or Dual rank. There's all kind of sticks and some are not even marked properly. Height of sticks is not critical but better ones are usually taller and have heat sinks on them.
