Question Trying to boot from USB to an external monitor via HDMI without the laptop screen

I have a lenovo U530 touch whos screen is broken, We were able to remove the cables
that connect to the screen. I want to run windows from a usb and use a secondary monitor as the screen. But when i plug in HDMI to the laptop nothing is showing up on the monitor.

There should be a function hotkey in the keyboard to set where the display would output...
