Trying to decide between a 1080p 144HZ display or a 1440p 60HZ display

Hello,

I have been going back and forth between these two monitors: 2K Monitor / 1080p Monitor.

I currently am using a single GTX 980, and i'm your standard gamer. I play CS:GO, TF2, GTA 5, Mount and Blade: Warband, and other shooters/twitch games.

I'm not sure if I should go for the 1ms 144hz 1080p monitor for my slightly competitive gaming, or if I should just get the 5ms 60hz 2k monitor for a better looking game. Does 144hz and 1ms triumph over 2k?

What are the advantages I will see when choosing one over the other?

Feel free to recommend other monitors around ~$500 for my needs.

On a side note, I could just meet all my concerns by shelling out 100-300 more bucks, but i'd rather not have to spend more money than I already am.

I had to make the same decision, I went with a 144Hz BenQ over a 2K display. Once you up the resolution to 2K you'll obviously get a frame rate drop. The 144Hz monitors are splendid to game on, I like my Battlefield and the smoothness achieved with a high refresh rate makes a huge difference, and eliminates a lot a screen tearing. The only time I'll notice screen tear is if the frame rate goes above the refresh rate, but you can mitigate this by finding a sweet spot with the in-game graphics settings.

I have the 1440p monitor and the 27 inch version of the 1080p monitor you are looking at. They are both good; but I find myself using the 1080p monitor 99% of the time. If you have DSR you get 3840x2160 on your 1080p monitor anyway (3200x1800 with VSR on AMD GPUs other than the 285 which weirdly is the only one that does 3840x2160). Personally I'll never get a monitor smaller than 27 inches ever again.

Thanks for informing me about DSR. I just did a quick search for it, and it looks great. Now I don't have to make a compromise, and I can save some cash as well.

Thank you, and thank you Coup77.
