trying to decide on a laptop

Solution
Depends on what you are looking to store on it. The SSD will be a much better performer, and everything about your system will be much faster with an SSD. Boot times, loading into programs, saving and moving files, all will be much faster than the legacy drive. If you need more storage, I would recommend getting a 1tb external hard drive for things like pictures, videos, and music.

However, if you think 256 will be nowhere near enough storage, and don't want to go through the trouble of carrying an external drive around with you, then there may be some value in the 1tb HDD. The performance of the 1tb drive will be much slower than that of the SSD though.
