So I mostly plan to use my current monitor to play a few games, watch youtube videos, netflix, etc.

This is the monitor I'm using now:

While it's fine, I should get a bonus in a week or so and thought it might be worth upgrading. I have a few in mind:

https://www.amazon.com/C278W-1920R-DisplayPort-Speakers-immersive-curvature/dp/B071JJ8V4S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1522007267&sr=8-2&keywords=27+inch+curved

(After doing some research, I've seen the Sceptre monitor listed as IPS or S-PVA, so I'm not sure which it really is)

I'm interested to hear how significant of an upgrade these monitors might provide, which of the two I've listed would be better suited for the needs i listed, and potentially other options that might be a better value. Thanks in advance

I would not get the HP panel. It is not much difference between your current monitor. At the $150 price range, I would not look at a IPS panel. You will be missing out on features that will have a bigger impact. But of the two you selected, the Sceptre has better features, but not great.

I would suggest expanding your budget just a little and look for a panel with 144hz. The higher refresh rate is well worth stepping down to a IPS panel.

This is a little over your budget, but for me, this is where I would start looking at a monitor.
