Hi all

For a few years now i've been having this problem with my PC when booting up. After loading the bios and right before it goes into Windows 10 the computer freezes up on a black screen right before it enters into my Windows desktop.

If it happens i'll just power off and on again, sometimes it'll be fine and it boots up into Windows correctly but most of the time i'll have to repeat the process until i get into the option to boot up on safe mode. If i restart the computer again at that point it works MOST of the time.

After booting up correctly there are no issues, plays games fine and no mid-use crashes so the problem only exists in boot.

I recently formatted my C drive and reinstalled windows, one issue i noticed was that my windows installation actually froze at 73%, after restarting my pc it seemed the format and install was successful. After a few weeks of use it seems the boot issue still exists but it only happens like 1/10 times now compared to what it was previously.

Any ideas what could be the issue and where do i start troubleshooting it?

These are my specs:

Intel Core i5 4690K
Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001
Be Quiet! Pure Power L8 600W Power Supply
ASUS Z97-A Motherboard
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 WindForce 4GB
Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB SSD
G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-2400C11D-16GXM 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3

Any advice? thanks !
