got a new asus laptop. it works nice(need to check sound and play a game on it) but one problem, somehow when i turn it on there is a nude pic of a girl at the lock screen. It's not bad and i can easily remove it. im just trying to figure out how it got there. wonder if there are apps that change the lock screen or maybe it's i havn't updated windows on the pc.

the only social app i installed was timder and the stuff i log in with facebook, gmail and hotmail. i checked all those on my phone and my other pc and didnt see one message me with that pic. i checked deep in the windows where the locked screen pics where and didn't find no nude. not sure where this is coming from!

I don't know how that happened since Windows 8 doesn't include stuff like that at default. It probably is some adware or malware. In that case, install Avira and run a full system scan. When that's done, uninstall it and install Malwarebytes (the trial version) and run a full scan again.

If the picture remains, then refresh windows. To refresh, go Settings on the Charms bar. Click Change PC Settings. Go to General. At the bottom right, there should be an option that says Refresh your PC. This will remove all programs on your laptop.

If the picture still remains, then reset your PC. Warning: resetting your laptop will remove all files and programs.
To reset, go the same route as refreshing except at the end click Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows.

Well, the only way to know is probably finding out the name of the malware that installed the picture... an antimalware should determine both the adware, malware name, and also the picture location on the hard disk.

Malwarebytes Antimalware

Your laptop had the OS previously installed right?.. It may have been previously used... even a few short minutes would do it, specially if it did not have an antivirus installed.

If IE was never used, some other web browser may have been installed and removed, or a portable browser, even from a USB flash drive so no browsing history would be registered.

yeah previous os install(no cd either🙁 ) but when i fired it up it was firing windows up for the 1st time having me select stuff. the pic is rastered so might not even be on the hd anymore(rastered is low res im age btw, got this partly for design reasons!). i did a pic search and found nothing on the harddrive.

ohh well im pretty happy with it as it's not bloated with software like some of the other laptops i've seen. just urks me i cant figure where this came from. like shook for 30 mins trying to figure it out without success. it's like this current desktop pc wont let me upgrade to 8.1 and i spent like days looking stuff up. eventually just said screw it and never ugpraded. small things like that just get to me. :)

Any thing is possible... computer builders usually install the OS many times from a single copy of a Windows installer and that can be a DVD, USB installer, Image, etc... If that's the case, the installed product key should be different from the one on the COA sticker. You can check that with Keyfinder and if that's so, the particular seller or reseller may be the one responsible for the picture because I doubt Asus would be that unprofessional.

BTW: the picture has to be somewhere in the OS because it has to be there to show on the lock screen.

See if this picture location coincides.
