Question Trying to fix my friends dying HDD by cloning it to a new one on my PC with Macrium

I feel like I'm in a little over my head here, I've never cloned a drive before and don't want to screw this up. His hard drive is dynamic, the option to clone shows up for only the drives that are basic. I'm not sure if converting his drive to basic would make it unbootable on his PC or if copying the dynamic volume to the new drive would be a viable option either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

I've realized a lot of my question comes down to this. Is copying a dynamic volume on Macrium the same as cloning? And if I do this will the new drive be bootable

"dying HDD"

Dying how?
If all conditions are good, then cloning can be a good solution.
Given a dynamic volume and a known dying drive...cloning is probably not the answer here.

In this case, you're going to run into FAR more problems trying to clone this, vs saving the users personal data to some other drive, replacing this dying one, and doing a clean OS install.
